The best way to describe the taste of this hemlock cocktail is “sophisticated.” The warm spices and citrus make it a refreshing drink that feels cozy.

A high-rye bourbon like Four Roses adds the perfect spice and fruity, herbal notes, but any quality bourbon will do.

Can I use store-bought simple syrup instead?

Sure, but the spiced simple syrup is what makes this hemlock alcoholic drink extra special. For an even “simpler” simple syrup, try this 2-ingredient recipe.
