It's here. The kick-off to summer.
I'll be honest - I wasn't sure we'd ever get here. The winter was cold and long here in Utah. In fact, it snowed just last week.
But as a long-time Utahn, I can't say I'm surprised. Utah always has one last wintery hurrah before hitting us hard (and so hard it does) with the hot-as-hell temps.
And we're honestly already there.
If I was uncomfortable last week with the snow, I'm even MORE uncomfortable this week with the heat. I just can't do it. The extreme temps make me miserable.
But, I do have a solution...
Yup, call me a lush, but it does have to do heavily with cocktails and other deliciously cold easy vodka drinks. They're exactly what I'm looking for when it comes to the heat. Anything to cool me down!
Thing is, I'm lazy and cheap frugal.
I don't wanna go crazy with all the ingredients and recipes when it comes to making a cocktail. Give me a couple ingredients that I probably already have on hand, and then add some vodka.
And that is exactly what I did for you today.
I put together 4 incredibly easy mixed drinks with vodka that only take 3 ingredients, including the vodka. Chances are, you could whip up a drink within the next 30 seconds with one of these recipes!
GINGER LEMONADE
- ½ glass lemonade
- 1 ounce vodka
- ginger beer, to top
CITRUS MINT
- 4 mint leaves, muddled in glass
- 1 ounce vodka
- lemon lime soda, to top of glass
OJ CRAN
- ½ glass orange juice
- 1 ounce vodka
- ½ glass cranberry juice
CITRUS BERRY
- ½ cup mixed berries, mashed in bowl or bottom of cup
- 1 ounce vodka
- lemon lime soda, to top of glass
You are welcome!
And what I love about these 3-ingredient easy Vodka Drinks is that they are already sweetened by one of the mixers, so there's definitely no need for any additional sugar or sweetener.
Of course, if you come across a drink that could use more sweetener, but you don't want to add sugar, I suggest the addition of my Stevia Simple Syrup. I try to always keep in on hand to add into drinks that need just a little more.
VODKA DRINKS FAQS
What is a good mix with vodka?
There are seriously so many options here. To me, vodka is one of those universal liquors where just about anything goes. Any soda (if you're into soda. Any juice. Any sports drink. Really anything goes as a good mixer for vodka.
How much vodka is in a drink?
How much vodka you add to a drink depends on a couple of things. One - how big is your drink? When making a vodka drink for myself, I will generally start with one shot, give it a stir, and then try it out. If it feels weak, by all means, add another half a shot or a whole one.
Secondly - what's your drinking tolerance? I personally don't drink very often, so a drink with just a little bit of vodka is generally good for me. Others may be able to tolerate more.
Drinking is a very personal thing, and luckily, you have the opportunity to customize your vodka drinks exactly the way you'd like them!
What tastes good to mix with vodka?
So again, this has to do with preference and what you like.
If you're into soda, Sprite is a good option as a vodka mixer. Fruit-flavored sodas are good for a sweeter taste (orange, grape, cherry, etc) Mixing Coke with vodka totally works as well, but just know you're really not going to be able to taste the vodka (which I'm totally cool with). Most people like to mix Coke with rum or even whiskey.
Other options for your vodka drinks that aren't soda:
- Ginger beer (uh, hello Moscow Mule!)
- Lemonade
- Cranberry Juice (vodka cran is one of my favs!)
- Pineapple Juice
- Orange Juice (anyone else have a terrible Screwdriver story like I do??)
- Grapefruit Juice (like in my Grapefruit Vodka Cocktail)
What is the best Vodka?
If you go to the liquor store and start looking for vodka, you'll see that there are a lot of options and may end up overwhelmed and unsure what to pick.
A few of the best vodkas that I go for:
- Grey Goose - SUPER smooth!
- Belvedere
- Absolut (a great budget-buy with a ton of flavor varieties)
- Skyy
Another one of my favorite mixed vodka drinks is my ever-popular Lightened Up Starburst Cocktail - with the use of whipped vodka, it tastes just like my favorite candy... It's pretty much a Pink Starburst Shot! (yes i'm a candy junky too.. i promise i'm healthy sometimes!)
Also, I'm pretty sure you and I should be putting a couple more simple vodka drinks on our menus this summer - I'm for sure putting Lisa's Pink Lemonade Vodka Punch on repeat all summer long. I'm thinking this Grapefruit Salty Dog from The Cookie Rookie needs to join the party as well!
Vodka not your thing? Check out one of my favorite Low Calorie Whiskey Drinks.
Happy summer!!
