A Grapefruit Vodka Cocktail can be a refreshing way to celebrate any fancy occasion in style without causing much fuss on the vodka cocktails.
Sit with me for a second. Yes just a second and then we'll get on to the goods that I know you're here for (the booze - I get it!).
Picture this. It's a blazin' summer weekend day. You woke up early to get in a run before getting your kids to soccer and baseball games. You ran errands. You spent the day working in the yard. You're gross. You're dirty. You are absolutely spent.
You really want something cold and refreshing, but you're not feeling beer. Easy Vodka drinks are totally your thing, but you don't want anything fancy... rather maybe you want something that looks a little fancy, but again.. you're toast!
Enter the easiest vodka cocktail on the block, my Grapefruit Vodka Cocktail. Looks fancy and all dressed up, but I swear to you, it's faking it.
And you're just going to love it!
- thirst-quenching
- tart but sweet
- girly but that kick of vodka
- no sugary syrups (besides pure maple syrup!)
- takes 5 minutes to make
A lot of people wouldn't think of grapefruit as their first option in drink-making because they're just not sure about it. It's sour. It's bitter. It's just a little weird & unknown. So I want to help out a bit because I think it can be so refreshing in drinks especially in the hot months.
What can you mix grapefruit with?
Grapefruit can be such a strong flavor that I really tread lightly here and generally combine it with other similar citrusy flavors like the lemon juice in this vodka cocktail. Instead of trying to mask the flavor and combine it with something else, I instead try to enhance it.
How can you take the bitterness out of grapefruit?
Really the best thing you can do is to add some contrasting sweetness, but of course, you don't want to go crazy with the sugar. That's why I like to start off with the coconut sugar rim right off the bat before you even get to the grapefruit in this grapefruit vodka cocktail.
What alcohol goes well with grapefruit?
Honestly, you really can't go wrong here. Obviously, we're sticking to vodka, but you could opt for mixing your grapefruit juice with tequila and end up with a basic Paloma (the national cocktail of Mexico). Rum would also be an option as well.
So really, how easy is it to make one of these cocktails?
How to make a Grapefruit Vodka Cocktail
- First you'll pour coconut sugar on a small plate. Using a 4-6 ounce low-ball glass, rim the edge of the glass with a grapefruit half until completely wet, careful not to get pulp on the glass, only juice. Carefully dip the rimmed glass into the coconut sugar, coating the rim of the glass completely with sugar.
- Pour ¼ cup of freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice, lemon juice, and maple syrup into rimmed glass and stir completely until well combined.
- Add ¼ cup (or 1 shot) of vodka to the grapefruit mixture.
- Add ice and top with club soda until glass is full. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit.
Ridiculously easy, right?
