Vegan Truffles Ingredient Spotlight
One thing I really love about these sweet little morsels is how few ingredients they have. In fact, you may have just about everything on hand right now! Let’s see what you need:
Vegan Dark Chocolate Chips – I love to use my favorite Enjoy Life Morsels for pretty much any recipe that calls for chocolate chips or chunks, and this one’s no different. I also love Simple Truth’s option I get at my local Kroger store. You could also use Lily’s Chocolate Chips if you’re looking for a sugar-free option.
Full Fat Coconut Cream – With the coconut cream, you want to be sure you’re using the coconut cream that comes from a can, not a carton like almond milk. The full fat is super important because that’s what’s going to solidify these sweet little truffleupaguses… (don’t ask). Low fat coconut cream doesn’t have those solids in it, and you’ll end up with super soft and sad vegan chocolate balls.
Plus, let’s just be clear here. This is not the recipe for dieting and low-fatness.
Liquid Sweetener – You have a few options here. Agave is my favorite because it doesn’t spike my son’s glucose levels, but pure maple syrup is a great option as well. Or if you aren’t bothered by consuming raw honey, that would be another option for you. Totally respect if it’s not your thing.
Almond Flour – Here’s your binder that brings all this yumminess together in sweeeeet truffle matrimony. Using almond flour is a great gluten-free option while giving you an awesome nutty flavor in each bite.
Salt – You can’t make a chocolate treat without just a tiny pinch of salt. Salt will enhance the chocolate flavor without even noticing the taste of salt.
Coating Options – Oh girl, this is where you get to be fancy and creative. I obviously took the Valentine’s Day thing and ran wild with it, but you can do whatever you want and customize them for any holiday or occasion you’d like.
Nuts – wanna chop up some nuts and go to town? Girlfriend, be my guest. Think about how pretty these would look rolled in chopped pistachios! Drooling!
Candies – How about peppermint candies? Or red hots? Crunch those all up into super fine pieces and get your sweet tooth on!
Cocoa powder – going a little more classy and simple? Roll your vegan truffle babies in a nice dusting of cocoa powder.
Chocolate coating – OR! You could take some of those chocolate chips and melt them down with coconut oil. Take those truffles for a dunk into that chocolate jacuzzi and let them set in the fridge. Come to mama!

A little back-story on Valentine’s Day
So why chocolate? What does chocolate even mean on Valentine’s Day? Well if you must know, this goes all the way back to the Aztecs, who considered chocolate an aphrodisiac. Chocolate is said to contain substance that ignites a flaming desire and make those who eat it open to romance. No wonder those heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are the most popular candy on Valentine’s Day! People just wanna get it on!
Vegan Truffles FAQ
Are truffles vegan? Generally when you buy a truffle from the store, it’s not going to be vegan. Milk fats. Different fillings. All the things we’re trying our best to avoid. Hence the reason we’re throwing a handful of ingredients together to make them from home.
Even the dark chocolate version of Lindt Truffles include milk and milk fats, so no, definitely not vegan-friendly.
How long will these vegan truffles last? Well that’s an easy question. One day once you get your hands on them… No but for real. Stored in an air-tight container in the fridge, they’ll be good for up to a week. Good luck though – once they’re discovered in your house, they’ll disappear instantly!
