White sugarGranulated sugar adds just enough sweetness to the vegan fudge brownies. Coconut sugar also works.

Almond milk – Almond milk substitutes regular milk in these dairy-free brownies.

Vanilla extract – Rounds out the dark chocolate flavor in this vegan brownies recipe. You can also use almond extract to add complexity.

All-purpose flour – Feel free to use gluten-free all-purpose flour for GF brownies.

Cocoa powder – You can use Dutch-process or natural unsweetened cocoa powder.

Baking powder – These vegan fudge brownies are made with just enough leavener to give them a nice, thick texture.

Salt – Enhances the rich chocolate flavor of the vegan brownies. Some also like to add espresso powder to their batter for the same reason.

Walnuts – They’re optional, but the added crunch of walnuts is fabulous with the gooey texture of these brownies.

Non-stick spray – For lightly greasing the lined baking pan.

Serve these ooey gooey vegan fudge brownies with a quick raspberry coulis on top! Just blend fresh raspberries with agave and a bit of lemon juice, strain, and refrigerate until the mixture thickens a bit.

Tips For Making Vegan Brownies

Do Not Overmix the Batter

Mix the batter just until combined or when you no longer see streaks of dry ingredients. Overmixing can cause brownies to sink in the middle!

Cut the Perfect Brownies

For easier removal, line the baking pan with parchment paper and use the overhang to lift the brownies out. Allow them to cool completely before slicing. Cut the vegan brownies with long strokes instead of a sawing motion.

Storage Tips

Let the fudgy vegan brownies cool completely, then cover them with foil or plastic wrap. For the best texture, store the brownies at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also keep the leftover brownies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Made these for the first time and took them to my small group at church.
I’m the only Vegan and every week I like my friends to experience food from “the other side 🤣”.

    Hi!

First off these brownies are amazing!!! There’s one problem I run into constantly. Some part of the brownies come out just right. I can cut them without them crumbling. The rest seems like it needs to bake longer. I can’t cut them as easy and they fall apart. They also look and feel like they should bake longer. This happens within the same pan. I’ve followed the recipe exactly how it is. I’ve even let some bake a bit longer, but I still get the same results. Any clue of what I should do? My niece and I are determined to get these to perfection!

  3. Hi! these look delish. I am new to vegan baking and, looking at this recipe, I am not sure what ingredient is holding the batter together? There is no replacement for the eggs. What will baking due to bind this into a brownie? I was thinking of making them for Easter.

    1. Hi Gina! Vegan baking can be so intimidating – I know it was for me. But these brownies are held together with the melted chocolate and the nondairy milk. They were the best vegan brownies I’d ever tried and everyone I’ve tested them on feels the same. Enjoy!

  4. So funny, the video appeared on my facebook and I was like, huh, those look like my brownies, then I saw the image of my cookbook! Now I ask myself, how in the world did I recognize a brownie!?!?!?! Hahhaa. Thanks so much for sharing, and for the awesome video!!!
