Monster Cookie Sweet Hummus - a healthy dessert hummus that will trick your sweet tooth into thinking you're eating a treat!

When I very first heard about sweet hummus and dessert hummus, I thought it had to be a joke. Someone had gone off the deep end and went way too far with their health kick.

Because really… we know that hummus is made out of chickpeas. And you want me to make a dessert out of this???

When I think of hummus, I think of Mediterranean food, Greek food, salty savory food. Definitely not a fun dessert

So I thought, ok, maybe this whole sweet dessert isn’t actually chickpeas. Maybe they’re just using the term hummus lightly, and it’s just cake batter and we can all go on living in a fantasy land of sweets and sprinkles. (But then we’d have to answer the question of Can you die from eating Raw Cake Batter, and I really don’t want to get into that here cause hello, we’re all still alive aren’t we?!)

And then I looked into it further…

This dessert sweet hummus situation is in fact derived from actual chickpeas, and it’s made to taste nothing like the savory hummus we devour with flatbread and falafel.

Ok, so let’s get into the nitty gritty of this Sweet Hummus Situation:

What is dessert hummus?

Dessert hummus is a smooth dip or spread that comes in many different flavors – chocolate hummus, cake batter hummus, snickerdoodle hummus, and so many others.

What does hummus taste like?

Unlike it’s savory counterpart, sweet hummus tastes like whatever you add into it. Chickpeas have such a mild flavor, that adding in a sweetener and other ingredients of your choice, you’re really masking the flavor of the chickpeas to create whatever dessert hummus masterpiece you’d like!

How long does Dessert Hummus last?

Dessert Hummus will last about a week in the fridge in an air-tight container.

What is Dessert Hummus made of?

My healthy dessert hummus recipe is made of chickpeas, a nut butter, cinnamon, vanilla, and maple syrup. From there, you’re free to get creative with whatever ingredients you desire.

How exactly do you make a dessert hummus recipe?

  1. For the smoothest hummus, be sure to peel your chickpeas first. It’s an additional step that does take time, about 10 minutes, but it’s totally worth it in the end, in making a dip that’s more appetizing. No one wants a chunky dessert hummus!!
  2. Add peeled chickpeas, peanut butter, cinnamon, vanilla, and maple syrup to your food processor. Blend together until smooth, making sure to scrape down the sides. Taste for sweetness and adjust if necessary.
  3. Add in the rolled oats and pulse a few times to combine but not to break them down completely. You still want to keep the chunky monster cookie texture.
  4. Serve topped with additional candies and oats if desired, and dip with apples or graham crackers.
  5. Then fold in the chocolate coated candies.

So simple, right?!
