Remember last week how I told you that I was sick? Well, I wanted to tell you more about that and how I was able to kick that cold to the curb as quickly as I did.

Because there is just nothing worse than being mostly over a cold, only to be holding on to a lingering cough, sore throat, or congestion, right? Like, you feel better and have to go back to work, yet you’re still hacking up a lung.

That would always happen to me. I’d be coughing for weeks after my cold was long gone, and it was just frustrating and annoying.

But not this time!

This time, my cold lasted a grand total of 4 days from start to finish. Done and done.

Let me tell you how.

I took Emergen-C as soon as I even felt a little tickle at the back of my throat. I continued that morning and night until I felt better.

I took zinc tablets every 4 hours as soon as I started feeling sick. I used a saline nasal spray every 4 hours. I rested during the day when I could and went to sleep early most nights.

I tried to sweat it out through low-energy workouts if I thought I could manage 20 minutes. I think I did that only 2 out of the 4 days, but hey, it was something.

Last but not least, I drank this smoothie every single day.

Greens. Coconut oil. Turmeric. Ginger. Citrus. Anti-oxidant-rich foods to fight off any of those bad germies I had inside me.

The thing is, I didn’t want anything cold. For one, it’s cold outside!! For two, I really wanted something that would soothe my throat. Like a tea but packed to the max with all the nutrients I needed to get better.

So I had a brilliant idea!

My new Vitamix has a soup button. Basically, when you hit that option, it knows exactly what to do to make whatever you put in it nice and steamy hot.

So normally when making a smoothie, I try to use as many frozen ingredients as possible. Not this time. I left everything at room temperature and used some warm water instead of ice cold juice or almond milk and let the Vitamix do it’s thing.

At first, I really wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a hot juice. But holy yum! It’s my new obsession.

It was soothing. It was warm. It was full of all the things I needed. And best of all,  it was really tasty!

And you know what? Even if you don’t have a cold you’re trying to beat, having a hot juice is so wonderful during the winter months when your teeth are already chattering from the frigid temps.

You’ve got to try this out!

Of course, I highly recommend using the Vitamix for optimum results, but do not fret. If you aren’t able to get a Vitamix, use warmer water and be sure that all your ingredients are at room temperature. I am pretty obsessed with all green drinks! One of my go-tos when I am feeling good is this, Matcha Latte.

  • 1 cup green grapes
  • fresh orange juice from one orange (about 2 Tablespoons)

Notes

Important note about ensuring you get a hot drink:
If you are using a Vitamix – simply use warm water and push the “soup” function. This will create the right amount of friction and time needed to create a warm drink.
If you are not using a Vitamix, be sure to use warmer water and all ingredients at room temperature, so as not to cool the drink down any.
