As a thirty year young female, I am not generally burdened with the thoughts of getting older. In my mind, getting “old” is light-years away. The gray hairs are only just barely starting to pop up, and I’m not quite feeling the aches and pains of getting older. Yes, I have now hit a new decade, and unfortunately, we haven’t learned how to turn the clock backwards yet, but I believe that I have so much control over how I am going to age, and it all begins with now. There are so many aspects of my life that I want to optimize so that I will be healthy not only in my thirties, but in my forties, sixties, and maybe even my nineties! I strive to be emotionally, physically, and intellectually healthy. These three things work in congruency with each other to help you live the longest and healthiest life possible, and I don’t know about you, but I want as much life as I can possibly get! How I Optimize my Emotional Health To be 100% honest, this awesome blog space is my therapy. This is what keeps me sane (even on days that it makes me feel INsane!). So much of my journey (more…)
Did you have a snowy week in your neck of the woods? We had a day of constant snow earlier this week which made for an ugly (and LONG) commute home. And this weekend has been snowy as well. Trying to stay warm in these conditions has proven rough. I’ve mostly just been hibernating under a warm blanket on the couch or directly in front of the fireplace. (more…)
I have been compensated for the post, but as always, all opinions are my own
I have a thing with muffins. Like a full on love affair. They’re so simple to make, meaning there aren’t many fails when it comes time to make then. They’re super versatile, so I can change up my recipes, to please my tastebuds. You can make them as healthy or as decadent as you desire. And the best part is, when you’re running late for work and don’t have time to make breakfast, muffins are always there for you. One or two in one hand, and your coffee in the other (of course, along with your purse, lunch bag, phone, keys, sunglasses, kiddo’s backpack, etc etc). Point is, muffins (more…)
Over the years, I am finding that I really suck at shopping for other people, even if I know the person I’m shopping for really well. For instance, my wife. She’s my best friend. I know her better than anyone else in this world. But do I have any idea what to get her for Christmas? Absolutely not. So I’m asking her to pretty much shop for herself, send me the online links, and I’ll take care of the rest. She’ll get what she wants, (more…)
I sure do hope that everyone has had a delightful Thanksgiving Weekend (that is, if you are in the U.S. and celebrate the holiday). Did you travel? Did you host at your house? We spent the afternoon with my family for the big feast and the evening with my in-laws for dessert. There was so much good food, and I kept hearing “mmm” from my kiddo about every 2 bites. He was in tastebud heaven!
Have you started decorating (more…)
That’s right. Cracker Crack. As in, highly addictive. Can’t stop. Won’t stop. Once you pop, you just can’t stop. It’s bad. But oh so good! These crackers are a necessity at every one of my in-law’s get-togethers it seems. And once you see them, you just know it’s over. You try to have just one, but the delicious combination of sweet and salty takes over, and well, you just lose the desire to have only one.
On top of that, they take so little time to make that there’s just no reason (more…)
I have to tell you something about Thanksgiving that I love. Let me rephrase that. I want to tell you about something that I love about Thanksgivings PAST.
While you’re cooking, there’s wine. In the food and in my mouth.
While you’re eating, (more…)

We are officially at the beginning of holiday baking season. Many of you have probably already started the baking, but for me, it doesn’t usually start until about the week of Thanksgiving, and then I’m full speed ahead until about December 24th. Much of December is spent trying to find the perfect cookie recipe in preparation for my family’s annual Cookie Bake Off. During December I go through pounds of flour, chocolate chips, peppermint, and sugar. And you can bet that there is a good layer of powdered sugar covering all surfaces of my kitchen. It is just go-go-go.
This year, (more…)
The seasons are definitely changing around here. The fall leaves have mostly all crinkled up and fallen to the ground. The air has a ridiculously cold chill to it. The mountains are snow-capped. There has even been some snow down on the valley floors. I’m not a fan of snow before Thanksgiving. Kind of in the same way that I’m not a fan of peppermint, Santa, and red&green before Thanksgiving. With Thanksgiving so late in the month though, these things are seeming to come so soon. I do have to admit that tomorrow, 3 days before Thanksgiving, I do have a peppermint recipe for you. It will be perfect for your day after Thanksgiving shopping or just cozy-ing up inside.
Speaking of Thanksgiving… (more…)
As a mom and a wife in today’s world, I face a whole host of issues. Using chemical-free cleaners to keep my family safe. Getting everyone settled and to sleep on time to get enough rest each night. And of course making sure everyone eats the right amounts of nutrients. This especially includes the nutrients we get in fruits and vegetables.
I, for one, just love vegetables. I could nom on (more…)
