SUGAR COOKIES 

INGREDIENTS

– 1 1/2 cups 3 sticks butter, softened to cool room temperature – 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar – 1/2 cup powdered sugar – 4 large egg – 1 teaspoon vanilla – 1/2 teaspoon almond extract – 1 tablespoon lemon zest (from about 1 lemon) – 5 cups all-purpose flour – 2 teaspoons baking powder – 1 teaspoon salt

STEP 1

Cream butter and sugars in a large bowl for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Mix in vanilla extract, almond extract, and lemon zest.

STEP 2

Add 2 cups flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix, then add remaining flour until dough is smooth. Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.

STEP 3

Roll dough on a floured surface to desired thickness and cut into shapes. Place cookies on a lined or greased baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 7-8 minutes.

Tips for Making  Perfect Sugar Cookies:

They hold their shape when you cut them out with cute cookie cutters. They don’t spread at all.
