I don’t talk a whole lot about my workout regime. There really isn’t a whole lot to it. Nothing fancy. No expensive equipment. Definitely no pills or potions.
The thing is, there are a few items that I just couldn’t live without when it comes to my workout, and I wanted to tell you about them just in case they may help you as well. If you’re all about getting in and out of the gym (home or otherwise) with just the bare minimums, this is the post that you’re going to want to read. There are 4 items that I never forget to bring with me when I go to workout, and I’m going to tell you why!
Let me start with possibly one of the most important part of my workout bag. Good-for-me snacks like these amazing V8 Protein Bars. You may wonder why having a snack in my workout bag is so important. Well, I tend to get some crazy wicked spur-of-the-moment low blood sugar spikes that could leave me passed out in no time if I wasn’t prepared. I can’t tell you how many times I was left unprepared and had to just shove my face with the nearest pure sugary junk in order to feel like I could function again. Sure does feel crappy when I’m trying to live a healthy lifestyle!
Thankfully, I was able to find a brand new protein bar at Walmart that is full of only good things, so I can be confident that when a crash hits, I will be filling my body full of real nutrients, like sweet potato juice, roasted peanuts, carrots, and oats! Plus, in each bar, I’m getting as much fiber as 2 cups of kale! Holy moly! That’s freakin awesome if you ask me.
I also carry these V8 Protein bars with me just in case I’m running late in the morning and don’t have a chance to eat breakfast. I know breakfast is super important, but on a busy morning, this will at least hold me over until my healthy mid-morning snack. I’m also super excited to try the new V8 Protein Shakes as well! You can find these bars and shakes at your walmart in the health and beauty aisle.
Secondly, there’s the very specific headphones. I used to hate headphones. My ears must be weirdly-shaped, because all the types of headphones I’d tried before my SONY Active Sports Headphones would always just fall right out of my ear when I was active. I tried everything. But now that I’ve tried these awesome headphones that wrap around my ear, I will never go back. They stay put. I’m able to jam out and jump around. I actually need to buy about 10 more of these before they go away. I’d totally be lost forever!
Then there’s the armband. This is so totally basic, but it’s another necessity for my amazing workouts. I’ve just got to have my tunes. I mentioned the headphones, but there’s also the arm band for my phone. The only other requirement to having my phone with me for great music is to have it out of the way. I don’t want to be bothered with cords or a phone in my sports bra just getting in the way (and giving me cancer…). So I have this grippy arm-band that doesn’t slip and slide around on my arm. It stays put. It gives me access to my phone so I can pass on the stupid songs and crank up the amazing ones.
My last essential item is my pair of Asics Gel-Fit Sanas. I don’t know where these gems have been all my life, but I’m never letting them go now that I’ve found them! This is the lightest shoe I’ve ever owned. Probably even lighter than a pair of TOMS! The top part of the shoe is a soft almost meshy material that forms right to your foot. This is the thing guys. I feel like I have pretty big feet. I’m not going to say a number, because that doesn’t really matter, but the point is that I’m self conscious about it. Every pair of workout shoes I’ve ever had to buy make me feet seem even bigger than they already are… until now.
I feel like I have a smaller lighter foot. They are so comfy for whatever I’m doing at the gym. The bike, elliptical, weights, abs, all of it. Now, they wouldn’t be the best running shoe, but running is totally not for me anyway, so it all works out. So if you’re looking for a shoe that makes you feel awesome, is super cute, and will get you excited to hit the gym, these are it!
I know this is a basic list, but that’s kind of the point. You don’t need fancy equipment to get healthy. You just need the few essentials to get you through the next 30-60 minutes. And above all, you need yourself. Your will, your drive, your strength, your inner-motivation, and your core belief in yourself! That’s what it all comes down to. The rest is all fluff. Start with yourself. Get your tunes in place, some comfy and cute shoes if you’d like, and of course your fuel. Fuel your workouts with REAL food where you can pronounce the ingredients!
After that, it’s game time! Get in. Work hard. Get out. And begin enjoying the rest of your day with a new exercise high!
