Valentine’s day is a little bit different for me this year. Instead of sharing classy glasses of bubbly with my wife, I am celebrating the day with my the cutest little guy ever, over glasses of Raspberry Mocktails. It’s definitely a change of pace for me, but I’m learning to adjust for the time being, while my wife is away.
I have decided that I will send my wife a gushy card for Valentine’s Day, but in all honesty, it’s not going to be anything new. I say that because I’ve sent her 21 love letters in the mail since she’s left for basic training. I’ve poured out the contents of my heart and soul onto paper. I’ve left tears on the lines. I’ve practically begged her to come home. I have learned to love and celebrate our love each and every day. I miss her presence in everything I do. Even just having her in the room while I’m working or being in the next room while I’m baking in the kitchen.
So I’m getting a little side-tracked (although, I think this is going right where it needed to). I love my wife. I celebrate our love every day, and the distance between us is only making us stronger.
It is also making my relationship with my son stronger. I beg for his cuddles. I beg for him to spend time with me. Sure, he still drives me crazy at times, but for the most part, I want him around.
So for Valentine’s Day, we are going on a mother-son date. I am taking him to dinner, and then we’ll see the Lego Movie. After that, we will sip on these super easy and festive Raspberry Mocktails over giggles and cuddles. (of course, if you want to enjoy an adult beverage, just add champagne instead of Lemon Lime soda.)
I believe that Valentine’s Day is for romance and your significant other, but sometimes that just isn’t always possible. I am celebrating my love every day, and this Valentine’s Day will be about a different kind of love, and I am all right with that.
