Life. It’s messy. It’s hairy. It’s difficult. And more often than not, we just want to escape from it.

I don’t know about you, but there are so many things in life that cause huge amounts of stress:

  • how are the bills going to get paid this month?
  • is my kid getting bullied at school?
  • when am I supposed to have time to clean up the house between work, errands, cooking, and trying to be a good mom?
  • wait… am I actually a good mom?
  • and what about my spouse? I have zero time for them. I hope he doesn’t leave me.

All this stress is enough to make anyone go crazy, right? You just can’t do it all.

But the worst thing you could do is to let it bottle up. Doing that just eats you up from the inside until you can’t take it anymore and it just explodes all over your life. At that point, just hope your loved ones aren’t anywhere near enough to get the wrath of that explosion!

So how do you manage it? How do you erase the stress?

I’m often dreaming of tropical vacations, cruises, and cocktails on the beach.

But then I just get even more stressed out thinking about how much money that would cost and how I’ll never be able to save up enough.

And that, my friend, is why it’s so important to find a way to just get away somewhere nearby. A hotel in your city. A day trip away. Something that doesn’t take much effort.

Instead of thinking about what you’ll be missing out on by choosing a weekend adventure over a big tropical vacay, I want you to focus on the core things you should be doing in order to erase all that stress you’ve been dealing with.

There are 7 key things you can do that truly melt away all the stress you’ve been feeling. Heck, you can even spend a weekend at home just doing these things, and your stress it bound to decrease!

Get outdoors

Whether you have mountains in your backyard, trails a few miles away, or you live near a local park with a pond – get out there and enjoy it!

There is just something about being outside and taking in the nature that melts it all away.

  • feeling the breeze on your face.
  • enjoying the beauty around you.
  • listening to the sounds of animals and leaves rustling in the trees.

I could just sit outside for hours just soaking it all up.

Add a hike or a jog in with it, and you’re releasing the all the feel-good endorphins exercise creates for you. Win-win!

Get lost in a fictional story. I cannot say enough positive things about reading. I’ve been enjoying stories my entire life. I can’t think of a time in my life that I haven’t been in the middle of a book.

And you wanna know why I’m always reading?

Because it takes me to another place. Another reality. Another life.  Books allow me to escape the stresses of life, even if just for a little while.

So head to the library or your local book store and check out the best-seller’s section for a book that will let you erase your own stresses and replace them with someone else’s story.

Pamper yourself

What can you do to give yourself a little love? Oh, my friend, there are so many options, and each one will just peel away the stress layer by layer.

  • bubble bath
  • mani/pedi
  • massage
  • get your hair done
  • take a nap
  • sleep in

Enjoy some wine

I know, I know – I could just stop here, and you would be satisfied. Cause who doesn’t love a good glass of wine? But I gotta talk about this for a minute.

I’m not telling you to get sloshed… by any means. What I’m suggesting is a glass or two to take the edge off. Enough for you to be able to breathe a little deeper and feel a little more relaxed.

A couple weeks ago, I knew it was time for me to get rid of a whole lot of stress, so we took a little adventure down to Southern Utah to get away.

And I had a vision!

I knew I wanted to drink wine out in the middle of nowhere. Where there were no stressors. No cares. No worries. Just me, my wife, and the great outdoors.

Oh, and of course some good cheese and crackers.

But the wine… I obviously didn’t want to take a whole bottle of wine… well, because I’m clumsy and would somehow drop the bottle down a mountain. And also because I swear, I can never re-cork the bottle, and after just a couple glasses, I knew I’d be good and relaxed.

That is where Bota Box wine came into the picture. It’s truly the perfect wine for traveling, especially if you’re going on an adventure like we were.

  • No need for glass.
  • No need for a corkscrew.
  • No need to spend a fortune.

The best part is that we weren’t limited by just a couple different wine varieties either. In fact, we had a hard time narrowing it down to just two for this trip – Pinot Grigio and Moscato (my fav this time around).

Bota Box was ready and waiting with its eco-friendly 100% recyclable materials to come on this adventure with us. Plus, I felt great knowing that I was supporting a wine that supports our earth by helping to plant over 200,000 trees in partnership with Arbor Day Foundation!

Whether you’re camping out in your backyard, going for a hike in your city, or heading a few hours out of town, Bota Box is truly the best way to bring along that glass of wine to melt away your stresses.

Turn off your phone

How much stress do you think is added to your life because of your phone?

  • emails
  • social media
  • needy people text-messaging you
  • unwanted phone calls

Ya know what? You don’t need all that. Sometimes you just need to shut it down and go back to 1997 where people could only get a hold of you if you were home.

Getting on Facebook and Instagram leaves us with the stress of not feeling good enough. Not skinny enough. Not enough money. Not pretty enough. Not decorated enough. Not crafty enough. Not playful enough. Just not enough.

For once, don’t let that into your life and just shut it out by shutting down your phone for a day (or more!!).

Leave the meal plans and cooking behind

Now this one is one of my favorites.

Don’t you think that sometimes the stress of meal planning and cooking is just too much? Sometimes it can totally take over our lives, trying to figure out what’s best to eat and trying to schedule it all in.

What if instead, you left that all behind for just a couple of days? What if you allowed your tastebuds and stomach growls lead you to your next meal? What if you didn’t plan a darn meal and just ate what sounded good at the time?

You might think that’s crazy-talk for a health-conscious chick, but I promise you, it’s completely freeing. Especially because you’re only doing it for a few days. No worries about planning out the next meal. You just go get it or the ingredients to make it as the hunger strikes.

And watch the stress melt away!

Ignore the clock

A life with no schedules.

A life with no appointments to make.

A life with no deadlines to meet.

A life with no alarm clocks.

Sounds like a dream land, I know. But it also sounds like a life with much less stress.

For just one weekend, ignore the clock. Sleep in late. Go for a run when you feel the urge. Not at a set time you feel you have to go by. Watch a movie in the middle of the day. Eat dinner at 10pm if you’d like. Stay up past your bedtime.

Do what feels good. Do what your inner-self wants to do – not what the outer clock is saying you should do.

  • Take a little extra time browsing your favorite aisles at the craft store.
  • Walk a little slower with your dog.
  • Soak in the tub until you’re all wrinkly and the water is too cold.

Not having the pressure of the external clock will allow you to do the things you want to do, stress-free.

Stress is a real issue that can cause health problems such as heart disease, insomnia, weight gain, headaches, etc etc etc.

I challenge you to get away for a few days and make at least a few of these things happen. Or even just make them happen while you stay home and take a mini stay-cation.

I would love to hear your experiences as you watch your stress disappear with these 7 actions. Let me know in the comments!
