3 Fun School Lunch Ideas

3 Fun School Lunch Ideas! Let's move past the boring ol' PB&J's and bring fun and nutritious lunches to our kiddos this year! Just in time for Back to School // Happy Food Healthy Life

I don’t know about you guys, but I get excited for Back to School time. And no, not just so I can get my kiddo outta my hair. My little guy is just awesome to have home, so I have no issues there. But I just love making fun and creative lunches for my son during the school year. He gets so excited over fun little themed lunches. So much, that he barely even realizes that there’s a balance of fruit, veggies, grains, and even a little treat if he’s been good.

So when Kroger contacted me, asking me if I’d like to create a few awesome lunches for back-to-school season, I had to jump on the opportunity to showcase my ideas and their wonderful products. Kroger Brand grocery stores are all over the country, and our Kroger store in Utah happens to be a Smith’s. Yours may be something completely different, but the point is that they are literally all over the United States.  With so many locations in Utah, it is my primary grocery store. Their products are new and innovative. They’ve even created a brand new healthy living line of products, called Simple Truth. Look for this label for all the new products.

One of my absolute favorite things about Kroger stores is how easy they make it to use store coupons and save money! By going to their coupon page, you’re able to browse hundreds of coupons, and load all them that you want to use right onto your shopper’s reward card. And not only that, but then you can print out a list of all the coupons that you loaded so you don’t forget anything when you go to the store. No coupons to lose. And you don’t have to worry about forgetting to show the cashier when you get up to the register. It’s all pre-loaded onto the card. Brilliant, if you ask me!

Now, let’s get into these fun recipes that I have created for you and your kiddos to make their lunches less “Ho Hum” and more “Yummy Fun!”

DIY Lunchable. It's so simple to make Lunchables from home and will save you a ton of money! // Happy Food Healthy Life

This is the DIY Lunchable, and it is one of my son’s favorite lunches. Seriously, this kid is always begging me to buy him Lunchables. You know, those packaged lunches that cost $2-3 bucks and have no real nutritional value, in my opinion. So I’ve come up with a way to save money and amp up the value of these childhood favorites.

I used Kroger Brand Whole Wheat Crackers, Kroger’s Pepperjack Cheese, small rounds of lunchmeat found at Smith’s, grapes from the super fresh and clean produce section, and of course a chocolate pudding since he was a good boy. Lunchables don’t normally come with fruit. But they should. And they can if you make them all on your own!

Garden School Lunch // Happy Food Healthy Life

I seriously love making themed lunches, and this Garden School Lunch was a fun one for me to create. Check out the flower bed sammie, created with bread right out of Smith’s bakery, small lunchmeat rounds, and Kroger brand cheeses. I’ve added broccoli shrubs and cherry tomatoes, as well as my Homemade Spicy Southwestern Hummus that I made using all Kroger products. Of course, we fenced in the garden with Kroger brand cookie sticks, and had to add the “mulch”, or the Simple Truth Raisins. What kid wouldn’t want this for lunch?!

Under the Sea Boxed Lunch // Happy Food Healthy Life

Did someone say something fishy?? Well this Under the Sea boxed lunch is full of fishy inspirations. With Kroger’s tuna packs, I created fun little tuna pinwheels. So perfect for little hands! A cupcake liner full of Goldfish, a sea-green jello pack, and of course fresh blueberry bubbles! So much whimsy and fun in this little lunch.

Do you know what was so great about creating these lunches? I only had to make one grocery trip! Kroger stores carry just about anything you could ever need to create your favorite meals, and especially these fun school lunches for your kiddos.

The great thing is that Kroger has agreed to give one of you lucky readers a $25 Gift Card to buy everything you need to cover at least the first week or two of lunches!! How awesome is that?!

How can you enter to win the $25 Gift Card? Simply fill out the Rafflecopter form below by signing in with your Facebook or E-mail account (you’re required to use one of those so we can contact you if you win!):

Such great ideas! My son is 21 and still asks me to bring him a Lunchable, even though he doesn’t live with me. I think I will make one up myself next time. Thanks for the ideas.

I know right? My kiddo starts 1st grade, and this Mama is starting to get a bit nervous. But luckily, he really enjoys school.

The coupon Rewards card thingy is GENIUS! We have always packed our kids lunches so we can save money and know what they’re eating (or not eating). Love the pinwheel tuna sandwiches!

It IS an awesome feature, isn’t it?? I’m a huge fan of making lunches for my kiddo as opposed to him buying his lunch at school. And with these fun options, he prefers the same too!

I love that you have a theme for his lunches! I have a first grader this year too, and will be making her lunches. This will give me some ideas on how to keep it fun and exciting! Love the tuna pinwheels and fishy theme!

1st grade is such a fun time! I’m so glad you enjoyed the lunches… fun lunches don’t happen every single time, but my kiddo loves opening his lunch box to see if I’ve made it a fun one!

Stopping over from Time to Sparkle. I’m in Cincinnati where Kroger is headquartered. I love their Simple Truth line of products. And all your lunch ideas are awesome… I especially love your under the sea themed one. My daughter (entering 2nd grade) would particular love this one and she is a big fan of tuna salad. Pinned! 🙂

The awesome thing is that these lunches are SO easy. It doesn’t take much to amuse my kiddo. Just a little creativity and willingness to change things up a bit.
