Lemon Sugar Scrub

Ah summer!  The season for BBQ’s, fun in the sun (with sunscreen, of course!), and endless weekends outside.  If you live in a desert climate like I do in Utah, you also know that with all the fun of summer, there is also the curse of dry skin that comes along with it.  Growing up in Indiana, where the air is full of moisture, I never had to worry about dry skin.  Everyone always told me how soft my hands are.  Now they’re rough and not so pleasant.  Same with my feet.  They take the grunt of the dry air’s beatings as I’m walking in flip flops all summer long.

Well, this isn’t a complete solution to your dry skin issue, but this easy peasy lemon squeezy lemon sugar scrub is part of it!  If you want to have smooth skin, you’ve got to exfoliate that dry dead skin off your hands and feet.  This is so easy that even I was able to whip up a batch yesterday, and I can’t stand for very long without feeling too much pain, due to the surgery.  All the ingredients were gathered and brought together within 5 minutes or less.

On top of that, this easy scrub also ties in with Lemon Month, which I’m sad to say is almost over.  I’ve had a fun time coming up with all the lemony recipes for you.  Lemony Pasta.  Lemon Thyme Bars.  and of course, there was the Glazed Lemon Blueberry Cake.  Can’t forget that one!  I haven’t come up with a theme for May.  Any ideas?  What ingredient would you like to see me feature next month?

Let’s get started!

Lemon Sugar Scrub

granulated sugar (enough to fill your jar.  I believe I used about a cup and a half)

1 lemon (for both the zest and the juice)

vanilla extract

coconut oil (in its liquid state) or olive oil if you don’t have coconut oil

In a medium sized bowl, mix the sugar, zest and juice of one lemon, a few drops of extract, and a couple Tablespoons of coconut oil.

Once every thing is combined completely, put into a jar and get to exfoliating.

Just use a small amount for your hands or feet.

Then you’ll rub it in really well all over.

Then all you have to do is rinse off the scrub.  Now your hands are soft and smell lemony-fresh!

It will smell like you’ve been baking Glazed Lemon Blueberry Cake all afternoon.  Good trick!  Let them believe it.
