This last week was so exhausting and just go-go-go. Between my outside-of-the-home job and this awesome little blog, I worked about 80 hours. Unfortunately, my body is paying for the little sleep it’s gotten, and I feel like I’m just going to crash at any moment. Luckily, I got to have an awesome date night with my wife last night, and I hope to just have a chill day today. It’s been cold and dreary here in Utah, so baking, watching movies, and staying in comfy clothes sounds just delightful. (more…)
Ok, we’re going to do something a little bit differently today. Let’s talk Food Photography. I am NOT an expert. I am generally just flying by the seat of my pants when it comes to photographing my food to look pretty for you. I BARELY know how to work my DSLR. I basically just hit random buttons with a general idea of what they do, and I hope the pictures turn out. I’ve learned that natural lighting is one of the most important aspects of getting your photos to turn out perfectly. I’ve found the best window in my house for the best lighting at the right time of the day. Everything was fine and dandy. Pictures were getting accepted to FoodGawker. I was feeling pretty good.
And then Day Light Savings happened. (more…)
This is a post of my own opinion. I have not been compensated by Elli Quark or any other company for this post.
Yes, pumpkin is still happening here! It’s still a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, and I am going to milk it for all it’s worth. And baby, this one is so worth it! I have never made a danish before. It’s been one of those things I’ve wanted to make, but just couldn’t bring myself to create something so decadent that I knew I would have a hard time saying no to. And well, I didn’t really want to live with the guilt of eating an entire danish by myself.
But then I found this amazing
What a week! I feel like the first part of the week, I was just go-go-go! Waking up at 4:30am to get extra things done before work. Getting the house clean. Working hard on the blog. Worked out a few times. And then by Thursday evening, I started feeling crappy and completely burnt out. I had definitely overdone it. Unfortunately, that’s how many of my weeks go. Monday through Wednesday, I’m rockin’ it, and then I crash (more…)
Between all the delicious recipes I share here, my purpose for this internet space is so much greater than cupcakes and brownies (although those a pretty amazing perks to the gig). My true purpose for Happy Food Healthy Life© is to inspire, empower, and motivate you to put your best foot forward and live a healthy and truly happy life without all the ugly influences from media, unhealthy relationships, and elsewhere. If you’ve been around since last summer, you may remember my Weekend Web Findings posts. I took a little break from them for awhile, and to be honest, I was kind of missing them! If you’re unfamiliar with my Weekend Web Findings posts, let me give you a little info. It’s basically a collection of the awesome things I’ve found all over the internet in the last week. Some of it will be food related. Some of it will be the farthest thing from food related. I like that it gives you a bit of an insight of the things I love outside of all the food stuff. Contrary to popular belief, I’m not ALL about food, exercise, and being healthy. I’ve got a billion other interests. I’d love for you to see that I am a real person behind this space here! Some links. Some of my favorite pins from the last week. Maybe some quotes. Basically whatever I’m inspired by.
So let’s get started! (more…)
For my entire life, I have loved chili. Like, a lot. I would eat it once a week from October to March if the rest of my family didn’t get sick of it after awhile. I truthfully don’t understand how it’s possible to get tired of a bit comforting bowl of deliciousness.
Where did my love of chili begin? (more…)
I very rarely make cutesy food. It’s not my thing. Yes, I have a seven year old who loves to eat nasty gummy candies the shape of feet (no, I’m not joking.. it’s a real thing). And he would love if I made more fun kid friendly food. But nope, he’s generally stuck with the banana bread, muffins, chocolate chip cookies, trail mix (maybe with a pumpkin-shaped marshmallow thrown in) … you know, the basics!
So to even be posting this super fun recipe, (more…)
