If you’ve been around at all this week, you know that I’m still keeping with the Get Healthy theme and bringing you lots of options. This week, we’ve been talking about quinoa and how good it is for you, as well as how versatile that little seed is. I started out with the basics and taught you how to cook it correctly as well as a couple of recipes.

I thought it was only fair that I share a few other quinoa recipes with you from around the web.

Oh my goodness. I don’t even know where this idea came from. Seriously, who thinks of turning quinoa into a dessert? Well, if anyone’s going to do it, it’s gotta be me. I’m the girl who just doesn’t like to say no to sweets. I can do it. I have the self-control to say no. But I have no desire to. If I want it, and I’m feeling like it’s time for a snack, I’m gonna go for the dessert. So the solution is this: making my own desserts at home and controlling what goes in them. I’ve been eating this stuff before it got popular in 2012-2013. As soon as I found out that I could get a ton of protein from this super versatile gem, I was completely sold. As a vegetarian, getting enough protein can be difficult. Well, at least for me. I’m against reading labels. I eat what sounds good. I don’t keep track of how much protein/fat/carbs I have every day. So to stay healthy and balanced, I have to ensure that I’m getting in the essential protein-packed foods when I can! Which is where quinoa comes in. (more…)

So it’s still January, right? We are about halfway through the month, and the big question is: Are you still sticking to your goals? And Smoothie Week continues.

Let me tell you. This smoothie has kind of been my enemy this week. Here’s the thing. Who in the world schedules a VERY full work week the week before her spouse leaves for 8 MONTHS of military training?? Who is that dumb? This girl, right here. In my mind, when I was scheduling the week, I thought, “Oh, it’s just smoothies. I can whip those up in no time and throw a post together real quick. No big deal, right?” Wrong! Along with even finding the time to make a smoothie, there is photographing it (while trying to think of some new and creative way to style a smoothie), editing the pics, and then writing something interesting to grab your attention. Those things all take time. Time that I would much rather be spending with my wife before she leaves next Tuesday. (more…)
