Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful

Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful. DEFINE BEAUTY! // Happy Food Healthy Life

Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful. I have a plaque in my bathroom that has this saying on it. This is a truth that I need reminding of often, and every time I notice it, I feel rejuvenated. Let’s start with the definition of the word.

Beautiful {byootefel}: Pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically.

With so many visual cues around us (ie. Pinterest and Facebook), our minds may start thinking that beautiful has one definition. Skinny, a glowing tan, chiseled, big boobs, trendy, a “thigh gap”, perfect make-up… etc etc. It is easy to start looking down on ourselves if we don’t quite measure up. The truth of the matter is that beautiful can be defined in so many ways. What one person sees as “pleasing to the senses or mind aesthetically” may not be as pleasing to the next person.

As human beings, we have the freedom to think for ourselves. We have the ability to dream up our own definition of beautiful. For me, the way that I express myself with tattoos and piercings… That’s beautiful. My curvy body type: That’s beautiful. The exact way that I am… beautiful. I refuse to confine myself to someone else’s definition of the word. I have no desire to look like every other person trying to achieve the popular definition of beautiful. I have the desire to look like ME! I did not come this far in my life to just conform to everyone else’s desires.

So the next time you begin those hateful thoughts toward yourself. You know, the “I’m not thin enough” and “I’m not trendy enough” and “My boobs aren’t big enough” thoughts. I want you to remind yourself that you are defining YOUR OWN KIND OF BEAUTIFUL!

You are beautiful in whatever variety you come in. The larger, the smaller, the frecklier, the pale-r… whatever it is you are. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!

Next time you are getting ready for the day, I want you to look yourself in the mirror. Look yourself up and down. And I want you to say it… “Damn girl! You are BEAUTIFUL!!” Even if it’s just in your head. Say it. Over and over again. Even if you don’t believe it at first. It may even be kind of weird. But over time, the more you say it, the more you will start to believe it

So tell me, this Monday morning. What does Your Own Kind of Beautiful look like?

Love this! I have always loved this quote. 🙂 Thanks for reminding me that my freckly, pale skin (but cancer free!) is beautiful. 🙂 I wish that this was something every girl said to herself each morning. The world would be a happier place!

That is so very true Camille! If everyone would see their own beauty, we would eliminate so much hate in the world. So much bullying comes from self-hate and jealousy. So much self-harm and suicide comes from the lack of confidence and self-love within ones self. The world really would be a different place if we all saw ourselves in our TRUE light! Keep reminding yourself of your beauty Camille! Don’t you worry – I’ve got super pale skin as well 🙂
