Wrong! I’m always sure to go fruit-heavy on my green drinks to mask any of the veggies and leafy greens that give it such a bright and vibrant green hue.

Beyond the fact that it’s jam-packed with so many nutrients, it’s insanely customizable. Think of all the other greens you could put in this smoothie, depending on what you have on hand:

  • green grapes
  • lime juice – a splash of this will really amp up the flavor

Let’s talk about the ingredients and ways you can customize this smoothie to your liking.

Celery – If you’ve been on the celery juice train, you are probably well-aware that celery has a distinct flavor. You either love it or you hate it. Celery is SO good for you – it’s full of antioxidants that fight cancer cells. It aids in digestion and inflammation. Overall, it’s just rich in vitamins and minerals. But if you just can’t handle the flavor, feel free to omit it.

Cucumbers – Cucumbers are great for both hydration and digestion, and I love sneaking small bits of veggies into my green smoothies because they’re so easy to mask the flavor with the fruit. Again, if vegetables in smoothies are not your thing, this is another one you could omit and just replace with a little more of the green fruits.

Avocados – adding this healthy fat is a great way to make a super creamy smoothie without adding a ton of flavor.

Ingredients

  • cup water
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)
  • 3/4 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1 celery stalk, roughly chopped
  • 1 kiwi peeled
  • 1 green apple cored, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 green pear cored, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 small cucumber peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 medium avocado peeled, pitted, and roughly chopped
  • 8-10 ice cubes

Instructions

  • In a high-speed blender, place all ingredients in the order they are listed. You want to make sure the spinach is weighed down by all the other ingredients to ensure everything gets mixed without chunks of spinach leaves.
  • Blend on high speed for about 45-60 seconds until completely smooth. Enjoy in a tall glass.

    I’m just starting out at the gym and have been really trying to clear my house of junk food and unhealthy food rather than i do indulge in junk food now and then … ssshhhhhh … So i think this recipe will be perfect for post work out meals, i was wondering if this could all be made and then put into individual baggies and then set in the freezer? I’m always on the go and would really like to be able to just throw it in the blender. Do you think that’s something i could do and do you think maybe i should let the ingredients thaw out before blending?

    1. Great job on getting healthy and taking charge! As far as prepping these, I’d pre-portion out all the ingredients in individual freezer baggies and then blend them all when you’re ready. If you have a quality blender, you shouldn’t have to thaw anything, but you may need to add a little liquid (water or almond milk) to get things moving better.

    1. I'm thinking if you blend, then scrape with a spatula, then blend again, it should work. Everything should be fine except maybe not the celery – it would be stringy in the smoothie, and that doesn't sound good. maybe just omit the celery?
